The Creole classes are fini (done). No, we're not fluent yet and still struggling with the smallest words, but maybe gaining slowly. These two older people don't catch it as fast as the young ones do. Stanley our teacher was very patient with us.
Our lower part of our house is getting finished on the inside with the krepi and randwi. Philip is welding the window bars in place and putting in the windows in place. Philip welded the generator trusses, put metal on the roof and welded the big generator door in place. Pastor Enel's son , David is making the doors, bars, stair steps. He's a very good welder, taught by his Dad.Our nephew and niece Tyler and Mandie Hollinger came to see us for 12 days. What a fun time we had. When they arrived at Port the airport was so busy, so when they stepped outside it was hard to get through the mob. What a greeting to Haiti!!! Then we climbed into the truck and did the normal crazy driving technique to our land. Whew! I decided I needed to go to market for a few things. Mandie went with me and she quickly was greeted by new smells, lots of trash, and many people offering their wares. What a Quick introduction to Haiti Culture. I think she wasn't too sure about everything for the first few days, but I believe she'll come back sometime.
On Good Friday , the boys left early to go work at the land. Mandie and I drove out later in morning. Our little town of Gantheir, was filling up with people and we kept meeting busloads after busloads of people coming in. I found out there's a hill with crosses and its called Mt. Calvary. Many people come and climb the hill and stop at the cross stations, light candles and pray. Pastor Enel said some will carry 3 rocks one in each hand and one on their head. ?? We climbed it with cousin Pat & Cheryl the other night , good climb and at the top statutes of Jesus and the 2 thieves with rocks laying here and there ? Not sure of the meaning of it all, but it was a beautiful view. Good Friday evening we went to Pat's at Soilette with Stephen, Tyler, and Mandie and enjoyed a Seder meal together. It was very interesting and we had a wonderful time. Spent the night and in the morning took a hike around the area. After lunch, some older Haitian children came in the house and we sang awhile before heading down the mountain Monday found us tile shopping with Stephen (Tyler, Mandie and Bethany). Philip would rather stay and work. Went in the first store, nice big show room, but not much tile in stock. The man told Tyler we could get it in 2 months from S.A. :) The next store smaller and had just about everything we needed or had it up at their other store. We ordered it and they said they would have the other tile down from Petionville by 2:00 the next day.
Went to the beach on Tuesday with Stephen, Tyler, and Mandie. Had a good swim and some us got a good burn too. Late afternoon found us at Wahoo Beach for a delicious meal before taking Stephen to Cam. He was leaving to go home the next day. Well, Philip went to pick up the tile and it wasn't all delivered to the lower store on Delma. So Tyler & Philip waited till they went to get it, not much to do but just hang out. Just another Haitian experience. Tyler was limited on time to lay tile for us and he also thought it was a day later then it actually was :). He finished 2 shower stalls and 1 bathroom floor. It looks very nice.
Last Sunday after a good church service at BRIC we took a picnic and went to a big dam and Sodo Falls-Simeon Shanksters, Tyler, Mandie, Gario, (a haitian friend) Philip and I. Tyler & Mandie left on Monday the 8th, we sure enjoyed them and hope they'll come again.
